NHS staff face usability and workflow barriers in NHSmail / M365 ecosystems, impacting workflows, productivity, and communication.
Target Audience
NHS staff across all roles: Clinical, security, administrative, IT, and business operations.
The Solution
Identified core challenges through research; Developed targeted initiatives and KPIs; Proposed two MVP dashboards; Outlined a data integration strategy for future analytics.
User Research Approach
The roadmap to actionable insights
Defining Research Goals & Preparing for Workshops
Reviewed problem statements to define focus; formulated targeted usability questions; created intro scripts and a structured MURAL board with precise timings.

Participant Recruitment & Preparation
Targeted diverse NHS roles; secured participant lists with partners; sent pre-workshop surveys; scheduled 12 one-hour workshops (6 on M365, 6 on wider initiatives).
Facilitating Workshops
Structured 1-minute individual/3-minute group discussion cycles; utilized Microsoft Copilot for real-time note-taking; personally facilitated all sessions.
Analysing & Synthesising Findings
Consolidated outputs and survey data; enriched insights via Copilot scripts; applied affinity diagramming; validated findings against the M365 data lake.

Delivering Insights & Impact
Synthesised findings into 12 KPIs and touchpoints; proposed 3 targeted actions; delivered evidence-based recommendations to senior leadership.

Validation & Presentation
Gathered data from the NHS's Microsoft Data Lake to validate workshop findings. Helped design a user-focused Power BI dashboard to make insights accessible, actionable, and transparent across the programme.
